Watauga County Arts Council announces their third annual Plein Air event, “Plein Mountain Air” Paint Out which will take place from: Thursday, July 11 at 5:00 PM through Saturday, July 13 at 7:30PM
This three-day event challenges all plein air painters to venture onto the Watauga County Blue Ridge Parkway parks, trails, hill sides, mountain tops, gardens and quaint villages for painting the majestic outdoor scenery in our area. We welcome all painting media.
Registration to participate in the event begins at 5:00 PM on Thursday, July 11 at the Blue Ridge ArtSpace located at 377 Shadowline Drive in Boone, NC. A $20.00 entry fee includes up to 4 stamped and dated canvases, event nametags, and the following exclusive participant events: Schedule of Events
Thursday, July 11 5:00 pm – Registration begins.
Meet and greet fellow artists at our kick off reception at Blue Ridge ArtSpace. Have your canvases, panels, paper or substrates stamped, map your route and go! Or, stay for an introduction to plein air painting tips in various media offered by local artists beginning at 5:30 pm.

Bob Nulf will be demonstrating Plein Air Painting at Daniel Boone Botanical Gardens. All registered participants are invited to the 30-minute demonstration and may join fellow painters for plein mountain air painting at the gardens throughout the day. Artists are allowed free admission. Parking is available, and you may bring a lunch.
(Bob Nulf, Guest Plein Air Artist Bob Nulf brings a lifetime of work in the arts to our group. He is a Fine Arts and Art Education graduate of Florida State University. In recent years he has taught in a variety of public and private settings: the Penland School of Crafts, the Ringling College of Art & Design (Sarasota, FL) summer workshops at Wildacres Retreat, Charlotte’s Story Slam Arts Center, and the NC Lions Camp Dogwood for the Blind and Visually Impaired located in Sherrills Ford, NC. His murals and work on canvas are included in collections throughout the region and have been featured on several PBS television shows.
Bob will be returning to the Blue Ridge ArtSpace to lead a three-day plein air painting workshop this October and information about that workshop will be available later.)
Saturday, July 13 Return up to two event stamped paintings framed, wired and ready to hang to ArtSpace for a Juried Wet Painting Opening Show. Work will be received between 11:30 am and 1pm on Saturday.
Reception and Sale, 5:30 – 7:30PM
Work will be judged by Bob Nulf and prizes from Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff will be awarded at 6:30 pm at the 2nd Saturday Celebration of the Arts (reception) held that evening.
Artists will be given the option of leaving their work on exhibit until August 7th.
