Event Description

"PAINTING THE IOTLA VALLEY"

With Jon Houglum

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28

The Iotla Valley of Franklin, North Carolina welcomes Western North Carolina and other area Artists to paint the valley.  The main areas we will be painting are in the "Burningtown Community" which is in the center of the valley. There are three main roads with numerous side roads throughout the Burningtown area, all of which offer lovely views of mountains, streams, old barns and other buildings. There are two camping sites in or very near Burningtown, as well as convenient stores. There are Motels and Bread and Breakfast six miles away in and around Franklin. A grand meal and "Council Fire" are planned for Friday evening at the Houglum Studio, open to all who wish to contribute to and participant in that meal. It is our desire to top the huge success we had last year with our Paint Out.  Those who wish to attend the Paint Out, please contact Jon by phone or e-mail to confirm your intentions.  He will be painting at the Penland Farms near the Iotla Baptist Church at 1537 Iotla Church Road.  Map Quest doesn’t give directions but Google Maps will give directions.

PS. Jon is my good friend and great artist, not to mention a crazy hard working Norwegian.  Several of us had a paint out with him in Oct of 2010 and had a great time we will never forget.  I know this is about 3 hrs from Charlotte, but worth it.  Take a friend or spouse and make this art trip.  Highlands is about 30 minutes away for those who may have a little more to spend, this would make a nice overnight trip.
