Scott “Doc” Varn is working on a project that brings together conservation efforts and artists. Artists can play an important role in helping to protect our beautiful landscapes. This is an opportunity to spend a weekend painting some grand landscapes in fellowship with other painters, poets, photographers, and conservationists. In the spirit of John Muir, Thomas Moran and many others that left a legacy of work to inspire us all, we can make a difference through our work.
The Preserving a Picturesque America group has been all over America seeking the places where the original adventure artists captured images of America’s great landscapes in the 1800s. On the first weekend of June they are returning to the chapter from Picturesque America that inspired the entire project, the French Broad. Here we will return to the locations where the original renderings were created to locate, capture and promote the conservation of this amazing place.
We are invited to re-create the original locations and publish updated chapters of how the vantage points look 146 years later. We need contributors to the revised addition and there will be an exhibition of the unique artistic voices of Western North Carolina.
So grab your art supplies and hiking boots because you are invited to join us to enjoy a weekend of artistic exploration, re-discovery and fellowship. Writers, poets, painters, photographers and all souls with the desire to renew their spirit and share their gifts, are welcome.
We are reserving camp sites and cabins in Hot Springs NC, so contact us soon if you want to join us for all, or part of the weekend. Details about costs and such will be provided.
