The North Carolina Plein Air Painters, are continuing a tradition that, though popular for centuries, became particularly important in the mid 1800’s with the introduction of paint in tubes and the increased understanding of color and light.
En plein air is a French term meaning “in the open air.”
Our initial paint out was in Feb 2007 in the southern Piedmont of North Carolina, this group later became known as the Charlotte Plein Air Painters, using the Ning Platform as our tool to stay connected. By the end of 2012 our group had over 200 members from around the state. In January of 2013 we became the North Carolina Plein Air Painters Organization. Our goal today is to assist the many plein air groups within our state by posting information about Plein Air Groups, Events, Competitions, Exhibits, Workshops, Pictures, Videos, and More.
We have no membership fee.
